Kill the Messenger

I read with interest that our friendly Rethuglican hacks at the head of the Senate and the House, Frist and Hastert, have decided that, rather than investigate the torture that the U.S. is perpetrating in its secret gulags around the world, they will convene an investigation into how the information about the gulags was leaked to the press. The normal Rethuglican response: if you don't like the news, kill the reporter (in this case the Washington Post).

When oh when will we ever get rid of these asses?

Update: This gets curiouser and curiouser. Apparently Trent Lott has now told the press that the person who leaked the gulag story to the press was a Republican senator. I bet Frist and Hastert will put the brakes on this investigation now.

Still another update: CNN:

Senate Majority Leader Frist telling reporters he has not officially signed the letter that he and Hastert drafted earlier today...
