Let's Play "Hide the Photo"
I find this spectacle of the White House canvassing the country to try to round up and hide any pictures of Bush with Abramoff to be hillarious. Bush has said he doesn't ever even remember meeting Abramoff (just like he said about the same thing about Chalabi). Now, the White House doesn't want proof that the two guys were lovey-dovey out there in the media. The news media know of at least five photos of the two looking very chummy, but none have yet surfaced in print. I suppose someone is waiting for the highest bid. Meanwhile, I'm sure the White House will try to get them classified top secret. It's like the Keystone Cops. I hate to think what will happen to the guy who actually releases one of these. Guantanamo, here we come.
Update: Publius has something to say about this:
Update: Publius has something to say about this:
While Bush and the White House will run away from Abramoff the man, they can’t run away from their complicity in the K Street project itself. Maybe Bush knew Abramoff, maybe he didn’t. It doesn’t matter. The White House was a central cog in the project that whored our federal government out to K Street – and Abramoff is a appropriate symbol of the ethics of that project. And so if the press and bloggers take a few cheap shots at Bush with some pictures, I won’t cry many tears.
