A Third Term?
I'm in the midst of reading Al Franken's The Truth with Jokes right now and just came across a fairly scary footnote. The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution provides that "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice."
Hence, since Bush was appointed, not elected to his first term in office, he can stand for his second election in 2008.
Somehow, I doubt that they'll use that argument. More likely they'll just say that because we're at war, we can't interrupt things long enough to have an election, and under Article II of the Constitution he will use his almighty powers as Commander-in-Chief to appoint himself to a third term. But, who knows?
