Cheney coverup II

John Avarosis at Americablog thinks there may be more to the Cheney shooting than has come out yet. He points to a number of troubling details about the story and concludes:

This is downright bizarre. And honestly, someone needs to dig a little deeper into exactly how this "accident" occurred. Usually hunting accidents are accidents, but sometimes they're not. But usually when they're accidents, the shooter has nothing to hide and hides nothing. In this case, the White House was intent on hiding something. And that is bizarre.

Update: Digby has some additional details:

Apparently, it took 12 hours to inform even McClellan that Cheney was the shooter. Both Card and Rove were involved very early. And Big Dick himself is said to have spoken to Armstrong about releasing it to her local paper, contrary to what she already said. A rather crude and bizarre press strategy for this group wouldn't you say? Why?

McClellan said that he knew about the shooting the evening it happened but didn't know until the next morning that it was Cheney. Asssuming he's telling the truth, I think it's fair to assume that they spent about 12 hours deciding whether Cheney or "someone else" actually fired the gun. I can't think of any other (believable) reason they would have waited --- unless there's even more to this story than we already know.

And how about that little bit about the deputy down in Texas who was told to back off asking any questions by the Secret Service? What's up with that?

Anybody know the definition of manslaughter in Texas?

Update II:

CBS reports something fishy about the story too:

CBS News White House correspondent Peter Maer reports Texas authorities are complaining that the Secret Service barred them from speaking to Cheney after the incident. Kenedy County Texas Sheriffs Lt. Juan Guzman said deputies first learned of the shooting when an ambulance was called.

But the Secret Service told a different story, saying agents had informed the local sheriff of the shooting about an hour after it happened and that the vice president had been interviewed about the accident by local authorities on Sunday morning, CBS News White House correspondent Bill Plante reports.
