It's an hourly wage, not piecework

Today, as often happens on a sunny Saturday, the Jehova's Witnesses descended on our street in two or three cars. They park at the end of the block and then wend their way down the street in groups of twos and threes, knocking on each door they pass.

My wife and I usually hide when we see them coming to avoid having a long argument at the door over why we hate Jesus (as defined by the Jehova's Witnesses) and have no time to save our souls (as defined by the Jehova's Witnesses).

Today, we watched surreptitiously from a window while the groups ambled down the street at a pace even a snail would not envy. Once they were past the house, we both remarked on the almost infinite slowness of their stroll through the neighborhood.

Suddenly, we had an immaculate conception. Almost simultaneously, we both concluded that the Jehova's Witness God must award brownie points in heaven based upon the number of hours His witnesses work and not upon the number of conversions they achieve.
