Ticked off
Tomorrow, we have a primary in NJ. There are no contested races, but I'm really ticked off that this will be the first use of Sequoia electronic voting machines with no paper trail -- designed just to get ready for November so the Thuglicans can steal the November 2006 election. The county bought these machines -- the most expensive on the market, then paid Sequoia an extra several million because they -- Sequoia -- couldn't deliver on time (sort of like the Haliburton deals). When they bought the machines they knew that the State was about to pass a law requiring paper trails for the 2008 election, but they went ahead with these machines even though they are not capable of a paper copy. That means they will have to buy a whole new set of machines for 2008. IDIOTS.
As it turns out, however, the Bush election law passed by Congress forced them to do away with the old (and perfectly good) mechanical lever machines we have used for years -- which, of course, did have a paper copy punched every time you pulled the lever.
Of course, this election tomorrow makes no difference, but November 2006 is a big deal, and I foresee the Thuglicans winning again, just like they did in ought four by fixing the vote.
Thank you George Bush for making us a perfect(ly) Rethuglican DEMOsarky.
