The Un-Artful Dodger: Perpetuation of the American Hoax
Today’s press conference with Pres. Bush found him in usual form trying to mislead the public for purposes of tricking them into buying GOP candidates in November. He continued to use the Terror card as leverage to provide credibility to an Administration that has none. Compare his assertions to reality
Assertion #1: In his usual mode of struggling for words, he claimed that Iraq is a “theater of terror,” and a launching pad for Al Quada terror and reduction of U.S. presence would allow Al Quada to win.
Reality #1; There were few terrorists in Iraq before the US arrived; now there are many. Reminds one of Mark Russels’s translation of Nixon’s quote” we have no ground troops in Laos and they have every right to be there.” How about if US leaves Iraq, all those government contracts for Bush’s buddies such as Halliburton will disappear. That’s worth 1000 lives to hang onto. Bush then claimed he hated to lose soldiers, but it was worth it to beat Al Quada.
Assertion #2: GOP priorities: are economic growth and Winning in Iraq.
Reality #2: If economic growth was important to the GOP, they would not be siphoning off growth sustaining purchasing power from the middle and lower class to the wealthiest 1% via his tax cut for the wealthy. If he wanted to win Iraq-see Reality #1.
Assertion #3: Democrat’s policy is to pull out of Iraq and raise taxes on “the American people.”
Reality #3. Democrats have called for accountability on Iraq which this Administration finds embarrassing so it translates that into negative. Democrats have never advocated raising taxes, but Bush thinks rescinding tax cuts for the rich is raising their taxes and he thinks they are on “the American people.”
Assertion #4. On a question whether a more formidable Quada leader will replace Zargawi, Bush claimed Iraq’s commitment to the cause will prevent it.
Reality #4. Follows that Iraq for three years had either not been committed or commitment since the election and constitution has not helped because insurgency has increased exponentially.
Assertion #5. Because Iraq had an election, they have a plan to win and that proves the charges of high uncertainty about winning are false.
Reality #5. Since the election the risk of losing Iraq has risen exponentially. If Iraq has a plan, no one has seen it, and, of course, the Administration wouldn’t want you to because it would blow their cover.
Assertion #6. To the critics that say no progress is being made in Iraq, Bush asserted such progress is clear, citing KWH of energy and oil production progess, and that it can be measured, and that putting time tables on progress was unrealistic.
Reality #6. According to the World Bank, KWH and oil production has declining on a trend basis since the US invasion. Further, the Administration has offered no statistics to the contrary as they claim, and given timetables are at the heart of good management, resistance to them can only be interpreted as a dodge of accountability as the Democrats have been saying.
Assertion #7. “Saddam destroyed Iraq’s infrastructure divided his people to further his interests.Reality#7. According to the World Bank, Iraq’s infrastructure measured in Bil. $ of assets was at a higher level than is the present case. Furthermore, unless you are Rip Van Winkle, Bush has been dividing America for his own interests from the gitgo.
The arguable conclusion of this press conference propaganda is that Bush unabashedly and the GOP for fear of Chaney reprisals will pursue the perpetration of this American hoax: use the American taxpayer to fund Quixotic foreign ventures for the profit of the GOP base while insidiously discrediting a social safety net in lieu of a pig in the poke privatization plan misrepresented by the tag name “ownership society” when the only thing they want to own is you.

Walldon, you said, "timetables are at the heart of good management." That is an extremely important point that should be thrown in the face of every Republican. The refusal to follow good management practices clearly demonstrates they do not have a clue what they are doing.
My abject apologies to marketingace, who entered this post. Of course, Walldon has made more than a few important points, too.
