Bald Faced Lie

Bush at his news conference this am.

BUSH: The terrorists attacked us and killed 3,000 of our citizens before we started the freedom agenda in the Middle East.

QUESTION: What did Iraq have to do with it?

BUSH: What did Iraq have to do with what?

QUESTION: The attack on the World Trade Center.

BUSH: Nothing. Except it’s part of — and nobody has suggested in this administration that Saddam Hussein ordered the attack. Iraq was a — Iraq — the lesson of September 11th is take threats before they fully materialize, Ken. Nobody’s ever suggested that the attacks of September the 11th were ordered by Iraq.

I mean, he just suggested it right there in the first sentence. But, there were soooooooo many other times that he, Cheney, Rice, and others made the suggestion this is just laughable.

Oh, this is a really telling statement. "Freedom" here isn't so much democratic, political freedom (or else the so-called agenda would have been in place from the start, regardless of the attack), as it is a pretty cover story for revenge & bloodlust and a neocon imperialist power-grab.

At best, one might have called the agenda one of "national security", but all the lies and manipulation that led to the invasion of Iraq prevent this from having been a genuine motive, apart from the overthrow of the Taliban.
