Why they hate us

Kevin Drum pointed out that the latest estimate of casualties in Iraq is 655,000, of which 601,000 were killed in violent circumstances (e.g., bombs, shootings, etc.). Of the 601,000, 31% were killed by coalition forces. That means we've killed 186,000 mostly innocent civilians.

That, in and of itself, is 62 times the number of people killed in the September 11th. attacks. But, if you project it relative to the respective populations of the two countries, it is the equivalent of having killed 2,146,000 Americans.

Think how we feel about the 3,000 Americans who died on 9/11. Then, think about how we'd feel if 715 times that many had died.

Now do you understand why they hate us?

Update:

Just in case you can't wrap 2,146,000 around your brain, that's the equivalent of wiping the entire populations of St. Louis, Orlando, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Kansas City, Omaha, and Salt Lake City off the map. Do you know anyone who lives in any of those places?
