Negative campaigning, II
A few days ago, I posted part I, which simply mentioned Sen. McCain's appearance in Illinois on behalf of two GOP congressional candidates, Peter Roskan and David McSweeney. While here, McCain ever so properly (and sanctimoniously) derided negative campaigning, followed by one of the candidates.
At the time, I was not ready to look into whose ads were really more negative-- although I had my impressions that it wasn't the Dems. Now, I have just read Greg Sargent's post at TPMCafe about one Roskam ad, which I myself have seen, to the effect that Roskam would protect Social Security in ways his opponent, Tammy Duckworth would not.
Well, guess what? Roskam makes three charges. All three are false. Even the AARP is warning seniors not to believe him. Sen. McCain-- are you out there? Or are you still too busy badmouthing Sen. Kerry to hear anything else?
