Not invented here

Sometimes, it truly amazes me how totally parochial we Americans are. How many of you are aware that the Asian Games are opening today in Qatar? "Asian Games, you say. What are they, and why should I care?"

Thousands of spectators have filled the Khalifa sports stadium in Doha to witness the opening ceremony of the 2006 Asian Games.

… Over 10,500 athletes and officials are taking part in the games. It is the second-biggest multi discipline event after the summer Olympics.

The second largest multi-disciplinary sporting event after the summer Olympics. That makes it bigger than the Winter Olympics. The opening ceremony was said to be larger than that at the Sydney Summer Olympics. And, there's not even a mention of it in the sports pages of today's NY Times.
