Corrupting the justice system
So Pete Domenici has issued a luke warm apology for having called U.S. Attorney David Iglesias to discuss the progress of a potential indictment of a Democratic candidate. He claims he put no pressure on Iglesias, but when a U.S. Senator calls you out of the blue to discuss why it's taking so long to indict someone, you have to know there's a lot of pressure there without anything even being said.
Since the White House admits that Domenici was among those calling for Iglesias' termination, it seems pretty clear that Iglesias' refusal to bow to Domenici was at least part of the reason for the termination.
Welcome to Bush's America.
We need to have some better press coverage of this too. Today's NY Times story was a worthless mishmash of unsupported hypotheses about why the firings took place.
