“You cannot trust this Administration on anything”
Democrats to a person should now be saying, on every possible occasion, “We know you can’t trust what this Administration says.” 90% of the American people know that’s true, including, in their heart of hearts, the majority of the dwindling Bush dead-enders. It's a veritable truism that lays the groundwork for everything they need to do, including not rolling over with reverence for the very political General Petraeus. He has a long history of shilling for this President –- Glenn Greenwald laid out verbatim his long history of declaring progress, even, as a supposedly non-partisan professional military officer, in a nicely-timed op-ed two months before the 2004 Presidential election. That, along with the reams of contradictory data undermining the claims of progress for the "surge", should all be a part of the record presented to the American people.
Reminding everyone that Bush and Cheney and their henchmen lie through their teeth whenever it suits their purposes forms the legitimate basis for ceasing to be so G-D- polite all the time. People who lie do not deserve respect or politeness. Democrats who refuse to show anger and tell the truth about liars, even if they are trying to promote themselves as somehow “above” partisanship, convey weakness. If the candidates and other Democrats can’t bring themselves to use the L-word, “can’t be trusted” is a more palatable way to start saying the same thing and showing they aren’t afraid to tell the truth. If they feel the need to preamble it with something like, "It's an unfortunate thing to have to say, but . . ," OK. But it is not a partisan thing at all to recognize that Bush and Cheney lie. So, please, demonstrate your non-partisanship not by continuing namby-pambyisms that won't set David Broder on edge, but by telling the G-D- truth.
