I don't agree that thepartisan/dirty tricks are a tactic of both parties. I hear that alot, I am tired of what both parties are doing, or I blame bothparties for the ugly politics. If the Democrats were like the rethuglicans the first thing they would have done when they took over Congress would have been to set up a special counsil and go afterimpeaching the shrub and the tin man. Maybe spend $60M on it like the Clinton debacle. They didn't for a lot of good reasons, not the least of which was the the country couldn't afford to be distracted from bigger problems, and the bad guys had been defanged. I cannot recall any Democratic "swift boating incident." The change in the media is largely attributable to Newt Gingrich, and the Republican Congress.He was paid off ($1M advance for him memoirs) by Rupert Murdoc to change the Federal Communications Act and eliminated rules againstmonopolizing markets, consolidation of outlets in a few corporations,and against foreign ownership. A liberal, by the way, believe that am my broithers keeper, and I have put my money where my mouth is. I don't know how someone can call themselves conservative and Christian. Christ would barf over conservative Christians. A fiscal conservative is different. You are not doing people any favors with soicial programs if they are running up big debts that getcovered by the hidden tax of inflation.The trouble and charm of the Democratic party is that it is democratic. There is room for differing ideas. Ideas get hashed outand merged into better ideas. The republicans advanced in the last 20years by following a grand plan and marching in lock step like a bunchof Nazis. Anyone who got out of line got their campaign funds cut offby Tom Delay and Newt Gingrich. There is a couple of guys that are responsible for a lot of the situation where corporations are running the country. By the way one definition of Facism is government by corporations. A liberal social philosophy and a responsible fiscal policy is a combination that works in the long term. The progressive tax structure is not just the moral and charitable thing to do, it is also reasonable because the rich getbetter treatment from the government and the government helps them getricher in many ways.
