Beating a dead horse.
Frankly, I'm getting a bit tired of Paul Krugman's continuing attacks on Obama. Yes it is true that Obama's health care plan fails to have mandates which Clinton's does. Yes, mandates are necessary. Point made. But Krugman keeps flogging this issue to death over and over again. His column in today's Times must be the fifth or sixth effort. Come on Paul, stop beating a dead horse.

I think we are becoming awfully hung up on a bad word. Am I in Medicare because of a "mandate"? Obama has his health policy wonks, and Clinton has hers. It's absurd to think a candidate needs to come up with the perfect plan. They are both firmly committed to the principle of universal health insurance coverage. Obama's wonks think his will get there by means other than a so-called "mandate." He may be preparing for the general election, too, gaming on how Republicans will twist whatever it is either candidate does. After the election, they will get together and pick the best of both -- and many others. Maybe Krugman's right, but make the argument after the election is won. What Krugman is doing mainly is undermining his own very substantial stature among liberals by this obsession against obama.
