Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing
I'm going to go out on a limb and make a prediction. I don't usually make predictions, but I'm going to do so today. The lead up to tomorrow's jobs speech by Obama is going to prove to be full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. What we're going to get is a rehash of proposals he's already put forth - extending an already existing payroll tax cut (which at best will have a neutral effect on jobs), putting a few millions of seed money into an "infrastructure development bank" (whatever the hell that is), and one or two other worthless or nearly worthless proposals, all of which will be shot down by Republicans anyway. If you're going to get shot down, you might as well go out with a bang, but Obama is dedicated to going out with a whimper. As T.S. Eliot wrote:
This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but a whimper.
1 Comments:
Ed Koch seems to have similar concerns about Obama's likely
proposals.
