The incompetence, cowardice, and racism of the Bush Administration and its agencies are truly beyond belief. Today, the
Washington Post reports that FEMA has withdrawn all its staff from the Ninth Ward in New Orleans even though the recovery work has only just begun, and most of the residents have not yet been allowed to return permanently. FEMA claims the pullout is due to threats its people have received, but the mayor says there have been no complaints about threats filed with the police department and no requests have been made for protection.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency pulled all its workers out of New Orleans's Lower Ninth Ward yesterday after threats of violence and planned to request additional police or National Guard support, a FEMA spokeswoman said.
A spokeswoman for Mayor C. Ray Nagin said the police commander for the district knew of no incidents or threat complaints.
Of course, the Ninth Ward is the poor, mostly black neighborhood of New Orleans that got the worst of the flooding. This government just plain doesn't care about poor black people, and they certainly don't want to have to associate with them. Yuck! So, they just leave the place to rot.
Meanwhile, the Republicans in Congress are refusing to finance the recovery of the city, and the Bush Administration, despite Bush's speech saying everything that needs to be done will be done, no matter how high the cost, is not pushing Congress to move on the funding. Its just disgusting.
This guy needs to be impeached and impeached now!
