We need a little prairie fire from the grass roots
Because both the "moderate" Republicans and the Democrats are capitulating to the Bush Administration on the NSA surveillance issue, I'm reproducing this plea to contact your legislators from Firedoglake:
It's time to contact your representatives in the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Senate Intelligence Committee, the House Judiciary Committee, and the House Select Committee on Intelligence.Update: Glenn Greenwald offers some reason for hope on this. He's a lot more upbeat today than he was yesterday. It's a long post but well worth the read. It cheered me up.
Just a little reminder that some Americans still hold their Constitution more dear than the whims of the person who happens to sit in the Oval Office for a brief tenure. "L'etat c'est moi" is not our national motto -- nor should it be.
The Founders of this great nation did not overthrow the rule of a King only to have another petulant George take up the banner over two hundred years later. As Benjamin Franklin so wisely said, those who would sacrifice liberty for security, deserve neither.
