The DeLay charade
It's understandable that Tom DeLay and the Rethuglican party would try to sell the line that DeLay resigned a) so he could spend more time helping orphans, b) to avoid having to fight with those nasty Democrats, and c) to sacrifice himself for the better good of the Party.
What's less understandable is why the press chooses to parrot that back to us when it's perfectly obvious that the real reason he quit was to preserve his campaign money to pay his legal bills as he confronts a growing array of indictments.
When was it that the press simply became stenographers for the Republican Party?
I don't recall the press carrying fairy tale stories like this when Rostenkowski was indicted and left Congress.
