Fickle polls
According to Raw Story, two pollsters asked the public whether they supported the Senate measure to censure Bush. The results differed rather markedly.
The Washington Post/ABC News poll asked, "As you may know, U.S. president George W. Bush authorized wiretaps on telephone calls and e-mails of people suspected of involvement with terrorism, without first getting court approval to do so. Democratic senator Russ Feingold has called for Congress to censure or officially reprimand Bush for doing this. Do you think Congress should or should not censure or officially reprimand Bush for authorizing these wiretaps?"
Censure lost in that poll 53-45.
The American Research group asked essentially the same question, but left out the name and party affiliation of those proposing the measure.
Censure won in that poll 48-43.
I suspect it is the party affiliation, not Senator Feingold's name, that queered people in the first poll.
Still, whatever caused the difference, it doesn't bode real well for the Democrats.
