Permanent US Bases in Iraq

I've commented on this before, but the UK's Independent has picked up on the story today. The US is clearly planning a substantial permanent presence in Iraq. We're building at least six huge military bases to house our forces.

The Pentagon has revealed that coalition forces are spending millions of dollars establishing at least six "enduring" bases in Iraq - raising the prospect that US and UK forces could be involved in a long-term deployment in the country. It said it assumed British troops would operate one of the bases.

Somehow, I don't think that's going to sit real well in the Muslim world. It will probably generate a large number of new recruits for al Qaeda. Look for more terrorist attacks to come.
