Another phony talking point coming?

From a radio clip I heard this morning, it seems the Bush Administration is trying out a new talking point to justify the war in Iraq: that an Iraq friendly to the U.S. will be an “ally” in the war on terror. The gullible will say, “Yeah, sure, that makes sense.” If I am right, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice will be using that phrase in their speeches, and Fox and the other mouthpieces will regurgitate it to help solidify the base and possibly drag in some wafflers.

But think for a moment and consider how ridiculous that is: a government that cannot even exist without the U.S. armed forces propping it up, and even with that help cannot govern its own country outside the Green Zone, and may not be able to function independently for 10 or 20 years, and then, in the most Panglossian view possible, will be able to do that only by distancing itself from the U.S. to prove it is not a U.S. puppet government, is going to be a helpful ally against terrorists in, say, the ungoverned regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan, or Saudi Arabia, or London, Germany, Canada or the U.S. itself?

A simple and perfectly obvious question for the media who pant along with him: "Mr. President, will you please explain how the Iraqi government in the foreseeable future will be able to help us fight terrorism?" Any bets on how long it will take to be asked?
