No Nato troops for Afghanistan
Last week, Nato commanders in Afghanistan pleaded for more troops, saying the situation had turned critical. Here's the response:
It's beginning to look as though we might lose the Afghan war before we lose the Iraq war at this pace.
Nato member states have failed to offer any extra troops to fight resurgent Taliban forces in southern Afghanistan, despite appeals from commanders on the ground for reinforcements. We might as well hand the country back to the Taliban.
"No formal offers were made," James Appathurai, a Nato spokesman, told reporters after talks among Nato chiefs at the alliance's military headquarters in Belgium on Wednesday.
