Democratic forum

Nancy Pelosi has organized a "Democratic forum" to discuss Iraq next month:

"Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi announced today that House Democrats will hold a forum to discuss the war in Iraq on Tuesday, December 5," the statement begins. "Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski, Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, and Major General John Batiste will join current and new members of the Democratic Caucus in discussing options for a way forward in Iraq."

I'm not sure whether this is a good idea or not. If there were a silver bullet to solve the Iraqi problem that these guys could find, great. But, there isn't. The place is a mess, and unfortunately in my view it's going to just get messier and messier no matter what we do. The more the Democrats buy into any specific plan, the more risk they take of owning the war if Bush ultimately follows that plan, just as Saint McCain is taking a big risk with his plan. And, owning this war is certainly something the Dems don't want.

On the other hand, jerks like Tweety Bird (Chris Matthews) are on the air every day criticizing the Dems for not having a plan. So, maybe we need one. I'm skeptical though. Bush is still running things and isn't going to listen to the Dems in any event.
