When I saw this quote from former Bush speechwriter David Frum at Kevin Drum's site, I just couldn't stop laughing. Enjoy:
I always believed as a speechwriter that if you could persuade the president to commit himself to certain words, he would feel himself committed to the ideas that underlay those words. And the big shock to me has been that although the president said the words, he just did not absorb the ideas. And that is the root of, maybe, everything.

They're all jumping ship -- Adelman, Perle et al -- claiming the highest of democracy-promoting motives. It's just been the poor execution by the Bush people.
To be honest, it's something of a relief that some not only get it, but now even say something about it.
If nothing else, they open up room for the notion of opposition, debate and accountability-- however after the fact. Too late to prevent the invasion of Iraq, but not too late to prevent war-making against Iran and so forth.
