Civil Unions

The New Jersey legislature passed a civil unions law today. It was forced to do at least this much by the State Supreme Court, but at least it's done. The Assembly also passed a transgender equality act by a margin of 100 to 10.

The civil union bill may still not withstand the scrutiny of the Court. Nearly half a million New Jerseyans work in New York State. If New York refuses to recognize the New Jersey civil unions, then New Jersey gay couples working in New York won't be on an equal footing with straight couples. The Supreme Court ordered the state to come up with something that puts them on an equal footing.
