Bring it on!

Today's NY Times has an article indicating that the Senate Republicans are planning to attach a tax cut plan to the Dems' minimum wage bill and fillibuster the bill if the Dems won't agree to the tax cuts:

As part of their 100-hour legislative blitz, House Democrats are expected to vote today to increase the minimum wage for the first time in a decade, to $7.25 an hour, in a move that economists say will raise pay for 13 million workers.

The bill’s chances are less certain in the Senate, largely because of friction over a Republican push to include tax breaks for small business in the bill. Senate Republicans have hinted that, without such tax cuts, they will filibuster the measure, a move that the bill’s supporters would need 60 votes to overcome.

I say, "bring it on!" Let them fillibuster it. This is one of the most popular bills going. Let the Republicans kill themselves by going on record with a fillibuster against the minimum wage increase. Then, watch the Dems sweep in 2008.

If the Dems cave on this, we have no hope on the tough things.

Besides, they will get the 60 votes. The best of all possible worlds is for the dynosaurs to filibuster -- sending the clear message that this is what Republicans stand for -- and then having it overridden.
