Killing the terrorists (or are they terrorists?)

Some group (I've now forgotten who) had a poll going yesterday, asking "Do you support the U.S. attacks on al-Qaeda in Somalia?"

Now, given the way that question is worded, it's hard to say, "no," without appearing to support al-Qaeda, but my first question on hearing the poll was, "Are they really attacking al-Qaeda or are they just attacking people they think might be al-Qaeda (remember, we thought there were WMD in Iraq too?"

Today's news makes me even more skeptical:

The United States has intervened overtly in Somalia for the first time in more than a decade with high-risk air strikes on suspected al-Qa'ida operatives believed to be hiding alongside defeated Islamist fighters.

The Pentagon said the US Special Operations Command had been pounding remote border areas of Somalia for the past two days. Witnesses reported many dead after an AC-130 aircraft fired on the village of Hayo, near the Kenyan border, on Monday.
