Now Gates does it too
It was bad enough when General Petraeus agreed with Holy Joe Lieberman that any comments against the "surge" tended to aid and comfort the enemy. Now the new defense secretary as said much the same thing:
This, "either you agree with us or you're a traitor" talk is getting completely out of hand. Luckily, this time around I doubt most Americans will buy into it.
Of course, for years and years and years to come, the Thuglicans will be blaming our loss in Iraq on the wimpy Democrats who spoke out against the war -- just as they continue to blame the loss in Vietnam on all those dirty f#@king hippy Democrats who protested against that war. And, just as they managed to convince a whole generation of Americans that they were right about Vietnam, they will probably be able to do it again twenty or thirty years from now.
Frankly, maybe we should fight fire with fire and start accusing the Bush team of treason for over-turning the Constitution.
WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Friday that a congressional resolution opposing President Bush's troop buildup in Iraq amounts to undercutting U.S. commanders in a way that "emboldens the enemy."
