Hamas-Fatah form unity government
This is good news:
It even goes a long way toward Israel's pre-negotiating demand that Hamas recognize Israel by the promise to "respect" peace deals with her. I'm sure the Israeli government won't accept this. But, I don't really think the Israeli government wants peace with the Palestinians. It just wants them to go away.
Meanwhile, however, we can hope that the Palestinians don't continue to self-destruct.
Rival Palestinian leaders have signed a deal to form a government of national unity aimed at ending lethal infighting and a crippling international boycott.
The deal, mediated by Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, was confirmed at a signing ceremony in Mecca on Thursday.
Under the deal, Hamas promised to "respect" peace deals with Israel.
Mammoud Abbas, the president, asked Ismail Haniya, the current Hamas-nominated prime minister, to form the new government.
