Will the Dems support Iran war? Probably
Question: Just where do Democrats stand on the impending war with Iran?
Frankly, I don't know, but I suspect many will support it. I don't mean that they will pass a resolution like the Iraq war resolution. I doubt they will do that. But, I doubt they will do much to stop Bush from initiating a war, particularly if he uses a trumped up excuse like the Gulf of Tonkin to justify a "pre-emptive" bombing campaign. Once were at war, they'll probably do nothing to stop it.
Why do I suspect this?
First, Israel wants us to attack Iran, and when Israel wants something and the Israeli lobby gets on the move, it's almost impossible for any politician to buck it even if they wanted to, and most won't even try. History is littered with the corpses of politicians who tried.
Hillary, for one, has already been making nasty noises about Iran. She knows where her bread is buttered.
Second, who among the Dems has come out strongly against a war with Iran? Russ Feingold, Dennis Kucinich, maybe a few others, but that's about it. Senator Webb may join that group. At least he has asked Condi to tell him whether the administration thinks it can go to war with Iran without getting Congressional authorization. So far, they haven't answered.
From what I can tell, Obama has been silent on the issue. Edwards hasn't said much either.
Third, the Dems are still frightened of looking soft on our enemies, and the media and the man himself have done all they can to portray Ahmadinajad as the enemy. He's almost a well-revered as Saddam was.
I hope I'm wront, but I fear that we've learned next to nothing from the misadventure in Iraq. And, if you think Iraq is a mess, just wait until we attack Iran.
