A lull in the committee hearings
We have a long lull in the House hearings on the U.S. Attorneys right now to allow the members to vote on the floor. What we've learned today is that none of these people were ever informed about their alleged deficiencies by the DOJ. Many said that they had learned for the first time today what those alleged deficiencies were. Most had pretty strong rebuttal arguments to the alleged deficiencies.
Couple that with the fact that most, perhaps all, of these people were either pursuing investigations of Republicans too eagerly (in the eyes of the White House) or failing to pursue investigations of Democrats eagerly enough. Some were even pressured subtly but not so subtly by members of Congress and/or higher ups in government to modify their corruption investigations.
Add to the mix the fact that the DOJ has now offered up a multiplicity of different, mutually inconsistent explanations of why these guys were fired.
Further add in that they were warned they shouldn't talk to the press or testify before Congress or they would be smeared.
I think we've got a pretty good stew going here. Just stir and simmer.
