You're going to hell

Frankly, I couldn't care much what the Pope does or does not do, but I would hope this would make some people think twice about what church they submit themselves to:

ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE (Reuters) - Pope Benedict on Wednesday warned Catholic politicians they risked excommunication from the Church and should not receive communion if they support abortion.

It was the first time that the Pope, speaking to reporters aboard the plane taking him on a trip to Brazil, dealt in depth with a controversial topic that has come up in many countries, including the United States, Mexico, and Italy.

In other words, if you don't force everyone to follow your own religious beliefs -- i.e., if you follow the Constitution that you must swear to uphold in order to hold office, and, therefore, allow people to practice their own religious beliefs -- then you are condemned and ex-communicated. In other words, no Catholic can hold political office in the U.S. I don't see any way around this end-game.
