Badder than Bush

There's been a good deal of gleeful chortling the past few days over Bush's continuing decline in the polls. Yesterday, the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll put him at 29%, a new low. Indeed, I've done a little gleeful chortling myself. But there's a bad news element to this. Much of the recent decline in Bush approval is coming from folks who don't think Bush is bad enough. They want him to string up all the illegal aliens and especially their children. They want him to attack Iran and god knows who else. So, it's not altogether good news that Bush's approval is sinking.

Now to an anecdote.

Last Monday, my wife went grocery shopping to the Shoprite supermarket in Livingston, NJ. While shopping, a well dressed elderly gentleman approached her speaking very broken English. He had a shopping list written in Polish and indicated he was Polish and trying to follow the list. He was holding a cauliflower and wanted to know what it was. She told him it was a cauliflower, and he repeated the word several times, thanking her politely for the information.

Shortly thereafter, my wife saw this same gentleman standing forlornly at the meat counter. A Shoprite male employee was rudely criticizing him in a voice that could be heard across the store, saying "get out of here you dirty old man. Learn to speak English you scum. You're in America now, so learn to use English."

The poor man looked completely humiliated.

My wife then remembered that several weeks before she had seen this same Shoprite employee criticizing an elderly lady for not speaking English clearly, so it seems this guy gets his kicks by loudly bashing elderly customers who are not fully fluent in English.

I guess this is what the Lou Dobbs of this world encourage.

So, don't forget, the same creeps that brought us Bush are still out their slavering for another go at it. They just don't like Bush anymore because he isn't bad enough for them. And, it's pretty clear that Romney, Giuliani and others are vying to claim that role.
