With a population like this, it's no wonder we have a president like Bush

From the Gallup Poll:

Overall, more Americans expressed a strong belief in creationism, or the theory that God created humans in their present form at a single period in time within the last 10,000 years.

A full 66 percent said they believed in creationism, with 39 percent of those polled saying it was definitely true and 27 percent believing it was probably true.

But 53 percent said they believed in evolution, the scientific theory that humans developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life. Eighteen percent said evolution was definitely true, while 35 percent said it was probably true.

I think some people are a bit confused.

This reminds me of an anti-trust case I worked on helping to prepare expert economic testimony for a colleague. The jury found against our client (the defendant). In assessing damages, the jury was asked to select from among several mutually exclusive theories of damages that had been set forth in the case. Each had a damage figure attached, the largest of which was about $50 million. The jury came back selecting all of the mutually exclusive theories as correct and adding the numbers from all of them together to get a damage figure of $250 million. The judge sent the jury back three times, explaining to them that they could only pick one of the options because they were all mutually exclusive, but each time the jury returned, they defied the judge, selecting all the options.

In the end, the judge overturned the jury verdict.

With a population like this, it's no wonder we have a president like Bush.
