Crossing the Rubicon

I watched Bill Moyers' Journal last night on PBS. He had two guests, one a conservative, the other a liberal, on the show to discuss impeachment of Bush/Cheney. Both called for their impeachment. And, as I have often argued on this blog, their reasons were that if we don't check this president NOW, the powers he and Cheney have claimed will be legitimized and claimed by every president of whatever party in the future. It's in the nature of people who become presidents to want more power. That's why the founding fathers set up the system of checks and balances in our Constitution. It's those very checks and balances that Bush is destroying. Once they're destroyed, they will be hard to recover. Witness what happened to the power of the Senate in Rome.
