GOP CANDIDATES DEBATE
At least the GOP debate wasn’t quite as bad as the Iowa town meeting last month. Here are the main positions taken (my comments in paren.).
Giuliani
-claimed best executive experience. (Apparently, running NYC is tougher than running MA)
-claimed he could restore hope to America (apparently, this means that Bush as rendered us hopeless. that’s valid)
McCain
-claimed his military service makes him the best candidate (why don’t we dig up MacArthur and run him)
-he promised to beat the terrorists, like he claims we are doing in Iraq (delusional).
Romney
-strong economy based on keeping taxes low will collect more taxes (clearly, a real Laffer)
-eliminate dividend and interest tax on the middle class, but keep the Bush tax cut for the rich (and watch the Federal deficit soar)
-need to cover 45 mil without health care, but must to be via private sector like in MA (that the rest of America has refused to do for 50 years)
-need strong military
Others – no chance to win so not covered
Just when it could not get worse, the media cut to a Sec. Rice interview in which she actually said:
It’s good the Iraq parliament did not yet pass benchmark legislation (oil revenue allocation, de-Bathification) because it could at best squeak through and we want a conclusive vote.
So no progress is actually great progress, a new level of double speak.
