Time magazine in disgrace

Glenn Greenwald has been doing incredible work demonstrating the utter corruption of Time magazine and its so-called liberal pundit, Joe Klein. Klein published a false column claiming that the Democrats in Congress were promoting a FISA bill (electronic eavesdropping) that required a warrant even for intercepting messages from one foreigner to another outside the country. This was false, as everyone has recognized the 4th Amendment does not reach such communications and the Democrats have never tried to stymie lawful efforts to combat terrorism. Klein’s premise was the usual "liberal hawk" garbage that Democrats were being stupid politically for not giving Bush everything he wanted in the FISA bill. The problem is that Klein never read the bill – which in its preamble specifically says exactly the opposite of his assertion – and, without ever talking to a Democrat, had simply regurgitated a talking point from a particularly whacked-out Republican Congressman.

Klein then refused to admit his error except in the most defensive and still-deceptive terms, and incredibly, Time’s editors backed him up by refusing to admit the error, digging a deeper hole with every dishonest response, and even – get this – refusing to publish the corrective letters of Senator Russ Feingold and a Democrat from the House.
