Suspicious timing

As you may know, Nevada's caucuses take place next Saturday. Nevada, particularly the population centers like Las Vegas have lots of hotels. Saturday is a day when hotel workers have to be on the job and consequently wouldn't be able to join the caucuses unless the caucus took place at the hotels. Hence, last year the Democrats devised a scheme to create nine "at large" precincts at nine Las Vegas resorts so these people could participate.

A couple of days ago, the culinary workers union (a substantial subset of the hotel workers) voted to endorse Obama. Yesterday, the teacher's union, many of whose leaders have endorsed Hillary, has filed suit in Federal District Court to shut down the "at large" precincts, claiming they are illegally diluting the voting power of other groups.

The timing seems somewhat suspicious to me. After all, they've had a whole year to figure this out. Why come up with the suit one week before the caucuses and only a day or two after the Obama endorsement? Seems to me there should be a "speak now or forever hold your peace" rule regarding these kinds of challenges. If this plan was okay before the Obama endorsement, it should be okay after it.

And, isn't it nice that we may have a Bush appointed judge determining which Democrats will be permitted to vote?
