Faith healing

I gather that Palin comes from a church that believes in and practices faith healing. Actually, that's not such a rare thing as to make it really unusual. The staid old Episcopal Church, which I used to belong to, has groups within it that practice faith healing. But I've always had a real problem with the concept, at least as it is practiced by some.

The idea seems to be that if you pray correctly, God will be more likely to chose to heal you (or whomever you pray for), but if you don't, you're more or less on your own. This strikes me as something very close to witchcraft. If you say the incantation correctly, alakazam, poof, you're healed. If you say the incantation incorrectly, too bad. Doesn't that seem to trivialize God? It sort of makes Him seem like a puppet on string that's being pulled by the incanter. Why would God be so shallow as to grant a wish only if the incantation is said properly?

Any of you theologians out there (ChiTom, perhaps) might want to give me a hand understanding this. It's a problem I have with a good part of what passes for "evangelical" Christianity.
