If a tree falls in a forest ...

Steve Soto at the Left Coaster asks:

And how long will it be before Charles Schumer and the rest of the Democratic caucus in the Senate destroy their GOP colleagues on the Dubai ports deal? Given the revelations that Dubai still participates in the Arab economic boycott of Israel, when will Schumer and Reid begin kneecapping GOP senators who support the White House with the simple attack “the GOP is anti-Israel?”

Today, the NY Times said:

WASHINGTON, Feb. 28 — Lawmakers raised new objections on Tuesday to the proposed takeover of some terminal operations at six United States ports by a Dubai company, demonstrating that the administration-backed plan still faced significant obstacles despite an agreement for a more extensive review of any security risks posed by the change in control.

Senate Democrats seized on a report that the parent company of state-owned Dubai Ports World honors an Arab boycott of Israel, saying the United States should not be rewarding companies tied to discrimination against a major ally.

"This boycott not only violates at least the spirit of U.S. law," said Senator John Kerry, Democrat of Massachusetts, "it is inconsistent with everything we believe in as Americans."

So it appears they've tried, but it doesn't seem to work. If a Republican accuses a Democrat of being anti-Hispanic (e.g., the Gonzales nomination), all hell breaks loose. If a Democrat accuses a Republican of being anti-Semitic, no one listens. That's how far the Democrats have fallen. No one even listens to them anymore.

It reminds me of the Simon and Garfunkel song "The Sounds of Silence."
