A good read, indeed. Thank you. I was especially struck by:
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's recent statement that "we" made the "right strategic decisions" but made thousands of "tactical errors" is an outrage. It reflects an effort to obscure gross errors in strategy by shifting the blame for failure to those who have been resolute in fighting. The truth is, our forces are successful in spite of the strategic guidance they receive, not because of it.
Had not seen the phrase "right strategic decisions" cited as part of Rice's statement before. Tactical errors are statistically invevitable; the strategic ones are more damnable-- and the whole war is one big strategic mistake.
And now they think they can or need to take on Iran, too? Let's hope more officers speak out and (honorably) resign before following these wretched and discredited leaders into still more unnecessary bloodshed.
Rumsfeld needs to go: but he ain't the only one.
