Net neutrality
I've blogged about this once before, here. As I understand it, there is now a bill before Congress, supported by virtually all Republicans and most Democrats, to give phone companies the right to charge fees to large companies for favored access to the internet. The effect would be to make it very difficult for you to reach the small guys on the net, like us, who can't afford the fees. That would lock out many, many small businesses, such as your favorite B&B, the local hardware store, etc. as well as individuals and blogs. The net would come under the control of the same huge multi-national organizations that now control the main stream media.

Thanks for posting this, particularly the link to "Save the Internet". Following a lead from Eschaton to Washington Monthly, I came across a post that includes this
FreedomWorks News Alert from Dick Armey's group.
The language in there about "property rights" (i.e., the telcoms' rights to their cables) is disgusting-- as if that "property" were not created with governmental assistance and blessings on regional monopolization.
