Sugar coating the news

Several other bloggers have mentioned this, but it really is amazing. The press it seems is incapable of actually telling us that the public royally booed Cheney yesterday when he threw out the first ball at the Washington Nationals' opening day. The Washington Post said they booed him because he threw a bad pitch (watch the video clip and note that the booing starts as soon as he begins to take the field), the Reuters said cheers and boos were intermixed (possibly, but it's very hard to hear any cheering in the video. This was predominantly booing), and the NY Times says:

Vice President Dick Cheney threw out the first pitch for the Washington Nationals' home opener, a 7-1 Mets victory.

What is it about the truth that makes it so hard for the press to report it?
