Congress eliminates audits of spending in Iraq
The Wall Street Journal informs us that as part of the $109 billion supplementary war spending bill passed last week, the Senate Thuglicans, at the request of the White House, snuck in a provision barring the Inspector General from auditing the use of the monies.
This provision comes just as evidence of massive bribery, theft, and fraud in reconstruction contracting in Iraq is coming to light.
The White House says the move is intended to "streamline accounting."
Sounds like Bush is taking a page out of Ken Lay's book.
