Most idiotic comment of the day

It isn't even 9:00 am, but I'm willing to call this one. Hands down, it's got to be the most idiotic comment of the day. The NY Times reports that investigators have discovered a massive security flaw in Diebold machines (surprise, surprise). It's like leaving the back door open while spending lots of time and effort securing the front door.

The Diebold spokesman admits there is a security flaw, but says it's deliberate and not a problem. Get this:

David Bear, a spokesman for Diebold Election Systems, said the potential risk existed because the company's technicians had intentionally built the machines in such a way that election officials would be able to update their systems in years ahead.

"For there to be a problem here, you're basically assuming a premise where you have some evil and nefarious election officials who would sneak in and introduce a piece of software," he said. "I don't believe these evil elections people exist."

I have a few names to suggest. How about the guy who's running for governor of Ohio, Ken Blackwell? Oh yes, there's Katherine Harris. Of course, she's no longer an elections official, but she once was one and probably will be again in 2008 since she's sure to fail in her Senate bid. If Karl Rove became an elections official, you can be sure he would steal every election.

So, why don't we just remove all the doors, back and front? Take them off their hinges. Yes, let's open the windows too.
