Don't count on the press to tell you the story

Everybody else is reporting that Tom Noe has pleaded guilty to the charge of knowingly giving over the limit to the Bush campaign, but the Cincinnati readers won't learn that from reading their local newspaper. The Cincinnati Enquirer (one of two newspapers in the city, both owned by the same company) reports that he's changed his plea from not guilty to they don't know what ...

TOLEDO - A coin dealer and major GOP fundraiser asked Wednesday to change his not guilty pleas to federal charges that he illegally funneled donations to President Bush's re-election campaign.

Tom Noe had denied illegally funneling $45,400 in contributions to Bush's re-election bid. He was accused of giving money directly or indirectly to 24 friends and associates, who then made the campaign contributions in their own names. There is a $2,000 limit on individual contributions.

Noe's attorney and the U.S. attorney's office jointly filed a request Wednesday asking a federal judge to set a change of plea hearing as soon as possible. The filing did not indicate what the new plea will be.

As far as I can tell, the Toledo Blade is the only paper in Ohio that's worth a damn.

As the Blade reported more than eight hours before the Enquirer piece was posted,

More than two years after investigators began probing Tom Noe’s vaunted political fund-raising ability, he admitted yesterday that he used friends and colleagues to illegally pour thousands of dollars into the effort to re-elect President Bush.

Noe, whose fund-raising acumen earned him star status as a Bush “Pioneer” and helped him secure coveted federal and state political appointments, pleaded guilty to all three felony counts he faced.

Noe said he wanted to “spare my dear family and friends ... further embarrassment.”

The 51-year-old is facing between 24 and 30 months in prison and a substantial fine according to federal sentencing guidelines, assistant U.S. Attorney John Pearson said. However, he said he would seek an even stiffer penalty because of the “potential loss of public faith” in the presidential election.

It's just amazing how much of the mainstream media will just ignore an anti-Republican story until it comes out and punches them in the nose.

But, just watch how fast they'll jump on the non-story of Harry Reid going to a boxing match on the Nevada State Boxing Commission's ticket. Perfectly legal, perfectly ethical, and he even voted against the bill the Boxing Commission was backing. But, even the NY Times won't tell you that. They just want to find something salacious about Democrats because, ... well, because why?
