Saddam verdict
Tomorrow morning, Saddam will probably be sentenced to death by the Iraqi court, and that event will probably dominate the news cycle for Sunday and possibly Monday. Sunday's news cycle doesn't count for much since no one watches news on Sunday in the fall. It's football, football, football. (Not to be confused with football everywhere else in the world). But, the Monday cycle is the last before the elections.
It's inevitable, of course, that the Republicans will trumpet this singular achievement of the great democracy we have built in Iraq through our advanced planning and the great competence of our dear leaders. The Democrats, as usual, seem to have no plan to respond, so the Republicans will dominate the airwaves on the last day.
Will it have a major effect? I kind of doubt it. The news was Saddam's capture, not his trial in what we all know is a kangaroo court, run by puppets, and controlled by the U.S. After all, the verdict was a foregone conclusion before the trial began.
In fact, the timing of the announcement may look so fishy this whole thing may backfire on the Thuglicans.
I guess we'll know soon enough.
