Retraction
An unretraction as an update to this post. Andrew Tobias now has reports that, while most hotel key cards don't contain private info on you, some do, so it's best to destroy them all.
Yesterday, I posted a tip on protecting your identity from Andrew Tobias' site. It warned you to destroy your hotel room key cards when you check out since the contain your name, address, credit card details, etc. I said in the post that it didn't seem to make much sense to have this stuff embedded in the key card. Turns out I was right about that. Tobias has retracted the tip after receiving information confirming that there are no personal data on the key cards.
