Chaos in Pakistan

The American press seems to be largely ignoring the apparent governmental crisis in Pakistan, and I don't know the country well enough to judge how serious this is, but 3,000 lawyers calling for Musharaff's head seems pretty serious to me:

More than 3,000 lawyers have called on Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan's president, to step down amid fresh protests in Lahore over his removal of Pakistan's chief justice.

The judge was suspended after allegedly overseeing a series of promotions for his son, according to a list of charges filed by Musharraf and published in newspapers on Wednesday.

The allegations said Iftikhar Chaudhry also assembled a fleet of cars and demanded the use of planes that he was not entitled to.

It is the first time the charges against Chaudhry have been detailed. State media had previously only said that he was charged with misconduct and abuse of office.

With the White House tied up in knots, I wonder if anyone is paying any attention to this.
